At first sight, the monarchy in Britain might seem unnecessary and out of fashioned, especially for people leaving in a republic such as France or the US or in some regions of the Commonwealth such as Quebec in Canada. The Royal Family has so little power that they are becoming useless. The Queen doesn't have a significant political power anymore. For instance, the Speech from the Throne is written by the Prime Minister, she only repeat what the Cabinet write . Moreover, the hereditary principle which is a foundation of a Monarchy may seem unfair today. Finally, the monarchy is very expensive to operate; several millions of pounds are spent every year and these resources might be reallocated to some more valuable uses.
